W25Q16FW (16M bit) serial flash provides a storage solution for limited systems with space, pins, and power. The 25Q series provides devices with far more flexibility and performance than ordinary serial flash memory. They are ideal for mapping code to RAM, executing code directly from Dual/Quad SPI (XIP) and storing voice, text, and data. The device uses 1.65V to 1.95V single power supply, and has the current consumption as low as 4mA active power, power saving 1 μA. All devices come with a space-saving feature pack.
The W25Q16FW array is divided into 8192 programmable pages of 256 bytes each. Up to 256 bytes can be programmed at once. This can be done in groups of 16 (4KB sector erasure), 128 (32KB block erasure), 256 (64KB block erasure) or the entire chip (chip erasure). W25Q16FW has 512 erasable sectors and 32 erasable blocks, respectively. The smaller 4KB sector provides flexibility for applications that require data and parameter storage with greater space.
W25Q16FW supports standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Dual/Quad I/O SPI and 2-clock instruction cycle Quad Peripheral Interface (QPI) : Serial clock, chip selection, serial data I/O0 (DI), I/O1 (DO), I/O2 (/ WP) and I/O3 (/ HOLD). Supports SPI clock frequencies up to 104MHz equivalent clock rates of 208MHz (104MHz x 2) for dual I/O and 416MHz (104MHz x 4) for four-way I/O using fast reading of dual/quad I/O and QPI instructions. These transfer rates can exceed standard asynchronous 8-bit and 16-bit parallel flash memory. The sequential read mode enables efficient memory access with only 8 instruction overhead to read the 24-bit address, thus enabling true XIP (execute in place) operations.
Hold pins with top or bottom array controls, write protection pins, and programmable write protection provide further control flexibility. In addition, the device also supports JEDEC standard manufacturer and device IDs, 64-bit unique serial numbers, and three 256-byte security registers.
