TPS54540 is a 42V, 5A, step-down regulator with an integrated high-side MOSFET. According to the ISO 7637 standard, this device can withstand load dump pulses up to 45V. Current mode control provides simple external compensation and flexible component selection. A low-ripple pulse skipping mode reduces the supply current at no load to 146μA. When the enable pin is pulled low, the shutdown supply current is reduced to 2μA. The undervoltage lockout is internally set to 4.3V, but it can be increased by the enable pin. The output voltage start ramp is internally controlled to provide a controlled start and eliminate overshoot. The wide switching frequency range enables optimization of efficiency or external component size. The output current is a limited cycle-by-cycle current. Frequency foldback and thermal shutdown protect internal and external components under overload conditions. TPS54540 is available in an 8-pin thermally enhanced HSOP PowerPAD™ package.
